Heavy rains cause driving issues, 24-hour amount tops old June record

Torrential rains pelted Center and portions of Shelby County early this morning in association with the remnants of what was TS Bill.
 
Jim Forbes is reporting 6.54 inches at 7 a.m. in the past 24-hours in Center. A NEW RECORD 24-HOUR RAINFALL FOR JUNE IN CENTER, BESTING THE OLD RECORD BY TWO INCHES.
 
Several roadways in Center were affected:
 
Police scanner traffic AROUND 3 A.M. REPORTED a motorist is stranded on Hwy. 96 south in Center, just beyond the South Traffic Circle. They were led to safety by CENTER PD AND Center Fire Dept.
 
Center Firemen HAD shut-down US 96 in the area at Hillcrest Baptist Church AREA, but have re-opened THE ROADWAY as of 6:30 a.m.
 
Also, Arcadia Road, FM 138 inside the Center City Limits is reporting high water and WAS shut-down until water resides. ARCADIA ROAD HAS RE-OPENED.
 
CITY OF CENTER IS REPORTING CRAWFORD STREET AT BRIDGE GOING TO ELLINGTON ST IS CLOSED DUE TO ASPHALT BEING BROKEN UP.
 
TXDOT SAYS THERE'S ALSO REPORTS OF WATER OVER THE ROAD ON HWY. 7 EAST OF CENTER, FM 947 NEAR TENAHA, SH 87 TOWARD SHELBYVILLE AND FM 414.
 
Sheriff Willis Blackwell says to drive with caution on all major roadways, farm-to-market and county roads.
 
Roadways that typically flood during heavy rain events are and could be experiencing flooding.
 
If you don't have to be out, don't until the rains lets up and the water rescinds.
 
Remember, Don't drown, turn around!
