Texas Forestry Association executive says industry has bright future

The executive director of the Texas Forestry Association, Ronald Hufford was guest of the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce at its monthly luncheon Tuesday, giving the membership a historic overview of the non-profit organization that has served as a "Voice of forestry in Texas" for over 100 years.

Hufford says challenges face the industry, but believes the future is bright for forestry in Texas.

"It's changing all the time with ownership and other challenges," Hufferd said. "With a growing population there's a large demand here and abroad for wood products. New industries looking to east Texas for wood pallets and other businesses. We've had a strong industry. Hope the next 100 years of the TFA the future directors will see a bright future as well"

Ron Hufford has served as TFA executive director for over 32 years. He says the Lufkin-based organization represents 2,400 tree farms in 44 counties that covers 1-million timber acres.

A branch of the Texas Forestry Association, the Texas Logging Council will have its state meeting in Center, July 10-11. You can get registration information at texasforestry.org.
