Construction of Loop 500 expansion continues in Center, expected completion late Summer

TxDOT is telling Center Broadcasting the Loop 500 expansion project from US 96 to SH 7 East is now 90 percent complete.

The James Construction Group began construction on the little more than $16 million project in late 2012.

TxDOT Public Information Officer Rhonda Oaks says work continues on placing top soil where seeding will be done, followed by striping the just over 3-mile section. Ms. Oaks says stop signs will also be set in the near future at FM 699 and FM 2468 within the loop project.

She reminds motorist the new construction section is not open to traffic and the "Road Closed" signs remain in place at all access points.

The Loop 500 addition is scheduled to be complete in late summer and will offer a safer mode of transportation in and around Center.

As for another construction project in the area, Ms. Oaks says beams are being hung on the US 84/Texas-Louisiana eastbound bridge at Logansport and weather permitting, should be complete this week. She also noted work on the eastbound drainage features at the intersection at LA 5 and utility relocations will continue.
