Sales tax revenues on the upswing for most local entities

State Comptroller Glen Hager said state sales tax revenue in May was up over five percent compared to a year ago. He said it marks the 62nd consecutive month of growth in sales tax collection in Texas, adding revenue growth was spurred by consumer spending at retail stores and restaurants.

 

In Center, May's sales taxes are up almost 3.5 percent compared to a year ago. Center's check will be for $230,377. Year-to-date numbers are just one percent off from last year ($1,496,162.48).

 

Overall, Shelby County is about 2.5 percent ahead in sales tax revenue from this time in 2014. All collecting entities in the county had increases, except for Joaquin, who showed a 20 percent decline ($14,969.27).

 

Tenaha was up 26.82 percent with a check of $5,898.59 on the way, Timpson showed a 10 percent rise with $15,457.51, and Huxley's check of $408.65 is an almost 8.5 percent increase.

 

Year-to-date Shelby County cities have received $1.750 million in sales tax revenues so far this year, a 1.37 percent below this time in 2014.

 

In San Augustine County, the City of San Augustine was down 17 percent compared to May last year ($24,612.20), meanwhile Broaddus was up 90 percent ($3,009.33 in May). As a county, San Augustine was up over 8.5 percent from last year for the year.
