The owner of East Texas Extended Care, and Center native physician, Dr. Mark Mettauer has been named CHI St. Luke's Health-The Woodlands Hospital's "2015 Physician of the Year".

According to an article that appeared last week on the web-based site, "Woodlands Online", it was during a recent "Doctors Day" celebration that the cardiovascular surgeon was presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his clinical excellence and dedication to his patients.

President of CHI St. Luke's Health-The Woodlands Hospital, David Argueta said of Dr. Mettauer, "For the past 10 years, he has played an integral role in the success of the hospital's heart program. He (Dr. Mettauer) embodies our mission while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to providing patient-centered care."

Dr. Mettauer serves as Chief of Surgery at The Woodlands' hospital. He's also a former student of world-renowned physician Denton A. Cooley. Dr. Mettauer conducted his first-open heart surgery in 2005, and has performed nearly 2,000 cases in five years at The Woodlands campus.

The article said aside from his numerous accolades, Dr. Mettauer's most notable practice is his custom of praying with patients, family and staff prior to surgeries.

Dr. Mettauer said, “It’s a great honor to be recognized and a privilege to be a part of the CHI St. Luke’s Health family. He added, “The administration shows great support for physicians, which facilitates excellence in patient care.”

Dr. Mark Mettauer is a 1989 Center High School graduate.

He purchased the East Texas Extended Care clinics a couple of months ago. They have facilities in Center, Timpson, San Augustine and Pineland.
