Nacogdoches County Commissioners to consider weigh station construction, addition of state troopers at meeting today

Nacogdoches County Commissioners are expected to consider approving a resolution in support of building a weigh station on U.S. Hwy. 59 south when they meet today.

As part of the resolution is support for the addition of 13 state troopers in the 12-county East Texas area.

It's reported the weigh and inspection station would help in the weighing and inspection of the high volume of traffic coming out of the Houston and coastal area on Hwy. 59.

The resolution said with the completion of U.S Interstate 69, traffic will only continue to increase and will pass through five of the 12 counties. Presently, there are only 9 troopers and one sergeant in the 12 counties.

It said 13 troopers are requested to be added to the Lufkin district. Only 3 of the current 9 troopers are TxDOT certified.
