March unemployment down slightly in Shelby County, San Augustine holding steady

Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.2 percent in March, down from 4.3 percent in February.

 

The state has not seen a rate this low since July 2007 and Texas continues to trend below the national average of 5.5 percent.

 

In Shelby County the March unemployment was down to 4.7 percent, slightly less from 4.9 in February, and over 1.5 percent down from March 2014. Shelby County’s labor force is 11,613 with 549 looking for work in March.

 

San Augustine County’s March rate was 8.8 percent, the same as February’s, and down from 10.1 in March last year. San Augustine’s unemployment is 288, with a labor force of 2,858.

 

Neighboring counties’ March unemployment: Sabine-8.7 percent, Nacogdoches-4.3, Angelina-4.8, and Panola-4.0 percent.
