Panola College Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences makes presentation

Dr. Barbara Cordell, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences at Panola College, presented a break-out session at the Technical Association of College Technical Educators (TACTE) conference in Austin on April 9, 2015. Her topic was Team-Based Learning for Health Sciences. Panola College was awarded a Perkins State Leadership Grant for 2014-2015 to implement Team-Based Learning in Health Sciences at four colleges including  Panola

College, Kilgore College, Angelina College and Tyler Junior College. Dr. Cordell presented preliminary results from the data being collected. "So far faculty and students are embracing this form of student engagement in the classroom. We expect to see a positive impact on learning when the data is in", said Dr. John Ray, the evaluator for the grant.

A state-wide model for implementation of Team-Based Learning will be developed to share with health sciences at Texas colleges. "This is a wonderful opportunity for faculty to learn how to better engage students in the learning process," Dr. Cordell said. The final data for the grant will be collected and presented by August of 2015.
