Soccer:
The Center Roughriders will meet Houston Furr in the Region Semifinals of the Class 4A state playoffs at 5 p.m. today at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. Palestine plays Houston Scarborough in the other region semifinal at 7 p.m. The winners will play for the regional championship at 4 p.m. Saturday with a trip to the state tournament up for grabs. Entrance will be $5 for students and $10 for adults.

District golf:
The Joaquin boys’ and girls’ teams have both qualified for the regional tournament after they won second place at this week’s district event at Carthage Country Club. Lady Ram Dalayna Daw was first medallist. Lady Ram team members are Daw, Caitlyn Gates, Nikki Cox, Maci McDaniel, Sydney Harville and Kendall Smith. Ram golf team members are Reagan Hovey, Vic Patel, Lewis Blount, Adam Mason, Cole Powdrill and Dalton Wheless. The boys’ regional tourney is Monday & Tuesday and girls’ Wednesday & Thursday in Corsicana.
District tennis:
Joaquin took the overall team Dist. 22-2A Championships in boys and girls tennis recently. Joaquin tennis won every event, and went one-two in Girls’ Doubles and Boys’ Singles. The first and second place finishers in each division advance to region in Corsicana April 20 & 21.

The Center Roughrider and Lady Riders are in the Pine Tree Pirate Relays today.
Varsity and JV District meets for all area schools will be held next week.
The Center Roughrider Special Olympics team will host their annual meet at Roughrider Stadium on Thursday, April 16.
Baseball
The Center Roughrider Baseball program has a bye from district play today as they trail Carthage by a half-game in the Dist. 19-4A race. Center is scheduled to hosts a benefit Hit-a-Thon at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon at Roughrider Field. Players are hoping to raise at least $5,000 for the program to help off-set expenses. Players have been asking for donations and any help would be appreciated. The hit-a-thon’s format will have each Rider getting 10 pitches, with the total distance hit times what was pledged per foot the amount raised by the player. The event was postponed in February due to weather.

In Dist. 23-2A, the fight is for the second and third playoff positions as state-ranked Beckville is out in front with an 8-0 record. The Joaquin Rams (5-3) are tied with Gary for third place, a game back of the Timpson Bears (6-2). Joaquin goes to Martinsville (2-6) today, while Gary goes to Mt. Enterprise (1-7). Timpson will host the Tenaha Tigers (2-6), who are coming off an emotional win over Gary Tuesday. The Shelbyville Dragons (3-5) will host Beckville today.
In Dist. 24-2A, state-ranked West Sabine (10-0) is in the driver’s seat, with the second and third post-season spots also shaping up to favor two other ranked teams, the Broaddus Bulldogs (9-1) and Colmesneil (8-1). Broaddus will host Brookeland (3-8) today. The San Augustine Wolves (3-8) host Burkeville (0-10).
In Dist. 22-3A, the Garrison Bulldogs are also in playoff mode at 5-3, tied with Woodville and Woden. The state’s No. 1 ranked team, Central Heights is 8-0 and looks unbeatable. 3A will take four teams into the playoffs. Hemphill and Central are 4-4, making the playoff picture interesting heading down the stretch. Garrison hosts Central today.

With four games left on the schedule and trying to claim one of three playoff spots, the third-place Joaquin Lady Rams (8-2) are home against Douglass. Alto & Cushing are tied for first. After today, Joaquin has Alto, Timpson and Gary left to play.
The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are also playoff hunting at 8-2 as they go to Martinsville. Shelbyville is in third place behind West Sabine and Zavalla is leading the district race.

5K Fun Run & Walk:
Texas A&M Agrilife Extension along with Nacogdoches Medical Center and Brookshire Brothers are sponsoring the Shelby County Fit 5K Fun Run & Walk at 8 a.m., on Saturday, April 18. Entry fee is 5 cans of non-perishable food items, and the event is open to all ages-and you do not have to be a member of the Step Up Scale Down program. The event begins at Center Park Pond Pavilion behind the baseball fields. For more information, call 936-598-7744. A free refillable water bottle toes to the first 15 participants to sign-in at the event.
Golf tournament:
The East Texas Peace Officers’ Association Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, April 18 at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Nacogdoches. The format is a 4-man scramble with a start time of 1:30 p.m. Cost is $300 per team, which includes door prizes, range balls and lunch. All proceeds go towards the training conference for peace officers in East Texas, which will be held in Center in June. To register, contact Mike Claude at mrclaude50@gmail.com.
Car Show:
The City of San Augustine Main Street would like to invite you to enter the antique and muscle car show during the Heritage Festival on May 2. Joaquin Athletic Boosters:
The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.
