Local Sports Round up 04/08/15, Center soccer headed to region semis, Rider baseball loses to Carthage

Soccer:

 

The Center Roughrider Soccer team has advanced to the Region Semifinals of the Class 4A playoffs after a 1-0 win over Little Cypress-Mauriceville in Silsbee last night. Center will now face Houston Furr at 5 p.m. Friday at College Station’s A&M Consolidated High School. District foe Palestine meets Houston Scarborough in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. The winners will play for the regional championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.

 

District golf:

 

Timpson Bear golfer, freshman Dustin Pledger was first medalist at the district tournament Monday and will advance to the regional tournament in Corsicana next Monday & Tuesday.

 

District tennis:

 

The Tenaha Tiger boys doubles' team beat Martinsville 6-4, 6-4 to win 2nd place in district. Junior Colton Goeke and sophomore Andy Ward will travel to Corsicana on April 20 and 21st to compete at regional.

 

Track & Field:

 

The Dist. 19-4A Jr. High Track & Field Meet was held in Rusk this week, and the Rider 7th grade boys came in second, and the 8th grade finished fifth on yesterday. On Monday, the Lady Rider 7th and 8th grade teams were fifth place.

 

Timpson will be at New Summerfield Thursday and Center at Pine Tree Pirate Relays Friday.

The Center Roughrider Special Olympics team will host their annual meet at Roughrider Stadium on Thursday, April 16.

 

Baseball

 

Tuesday's results:

The second round of the heavyweight fight in Dist. 19-4A between two state-ranked ball clubs went the way of the Carthage Bulldogs last night, as the host rallied for a 4-2 win over the Center Roughriders. Dalton Horton took his first loss of the season. With the win, Carthage (5-1) moves ahead of the Riders (5-2) by a half-game in the standings. Center has a bye Friday and will be at Rusk next Tuesday. Center and Carthage will meet again April 24.

 

The Rider JV loses to Carthage, 3-8.

 

The Timpson Bears have taken over sole possession of second in Dist. 23-2A with a 3-0 win over the Shelbyville Dragons, as the Tenaha Tigers get a 4-3 win over Gary. Timpson is 6-2, while Gary drops to 5-3. Tenaha is 2-6. Shelbyville is 3-5.

 

The Joaquin Rams are tied with Gary for third at 5-3 as Joaquin shuts-out Mt. Enterprise (1-7), 12-0.

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are now 8-2 in district after a 2-1 win over Zavalla.

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams get a 10-0 win over Mt. Enterprise, to improve to 8-2 in district.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears make it four-in-a-row with a 21-7 win over Douglass. Timpson is 4-6.

Car Show:

 

The City of San Augustine Main Street would like to invite you to enter the antique and muscle car show during the Heritage Festival on May 2. The chairs Billy Johnson and daughter Brittney Johnson are in charge of the event. It will take place Saturday May 2. Call to reserve your place, 936-201-9798 or 936-275-3172. Joaquin Athletic Boosters:

 

The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.

 

The 37th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Anglers’ Take a Kid Fishing Bream Tournament will be held on Toledo Bend at Huxley Bay Marina on Saturday, May 9. We invite all children ages 3 to 15 years old to register for the free tournament. Entry forms can be picked up at the Center Broadcasting studios at 307 San Augustine Street in Center, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery & Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center.   Participants must be preregistered no later than May 1st.  Trophies will be awarded to each group and prizes will be available for each participant.  Fishing begins at 6am, and all participants must be in the weigh-in line no later than 12:30pm.
