DeSoto Parish voters gave approval to two property tax renewals Saturday.

A light turnout of some 3,500 gave a 70 percent approval to taxes that generate around $38 million annually, providing approximately 42 percent of the district’s total operations budget.

One of the taxes covers salaries and benefits of all employees, while another is referred to as a maintenance tax and pays for the maintenance department, along with the purchase of school buses.
