Local Sports Round up 03/26/15

Baseball:

 

Center Roughrider outfielder Taylor Tomlin signed to further his education and play baseball at Panola College during a ceremony Wednesday morning at Center High School. Tomlin is one of the top hitters in East Texas with a .519 batting average heading into play this week. Tomlin makes the fourth Rider on the current team to sign a national letter to play past high school. Tomlin and his Rider teammates are 9-1-1 on the season, 3-0, atop Dist. 19-4A, and will be home play Rusk Friday night.

The Rider JV will play a double header Saturday vs. Carthage in Center at 1 and 3 p.m.

The boys' state meet is this weekend in Abilene with several local lifters taking part.

Soccer:

 

The Center Rider Soccer team will play a first-round playoff game at 5:30 p.m. Friday night against Mexia in Crockett. The Riders finished second in district.

 

Team Tennis:

 

Center will be at the Longview Tournament Friday.

 

Track & Field:

 

Center will be at the Kirbyville meet and the Alumi Relays are scheduled for San Augustine.

 

Bowling:

The SFA Bowling Team has been selected for the 2015 NCAA Championships. SFA was chosen as one of eight teams to compete April 9-11 in Richmond Heights, Missouri. They will be the number seven seed. SFA is making its first appearance in the national tournament and is currently ranked fifth in the latest coaches’ poll.

 

Little Dribblers:

 

The Tenaha Little Dribblers Basketball program has two teams headed to the national tournament April 8-11th in Nacona, Texas. In order to help with lodging and food costs during the tournament, the parents are having a bake sale in front of the Tiger Stop this Saturday, March 28th.  The parents and kids would love for the community to come out and buy some cookies and cake to support their teams.  

 

Joaquin Athletic Boosters:

 

The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.
