Center High FFA students participate in Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo contest

Multiple groups representing Center High School competed at the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo. The following explains the contests and results for those who participated:

Toby Fleming and Blake Griffin both exhibited a pen of broilers at the Houston Livestock Show.  This is the first time Center FFA has been represented at the Houston Broiler show is several years.  The boys received their birds on January 29th.  They raised their birds over a 6 week period in the rain and cold.  Out of the near 400 pens of chickens that were shown this year at the Houston show, the boys were called back during the 4th round.  Although they did not make the sale this year, it was a fantastic learning experience for next year!

Kam and Alec Lucas received a blue ribbon this past weekend for their â€‹cattle feeder at the Houston â€‹Livestock Show and Rodeo

But the biggest news is that they placed *4th overall* in the feeder class
out of the WHOLE state of Texas. For their accomplishment, the contest gave
our department all kinds of new tools and a NEW stick welder.

Center FFA Livestock Judging Team competed in the Houston Livestock Judging
Contest on March 15th.  This contest is the biggest contest in the *country *with 1559 competitors.  Center's team did fantastic placing 49th in the State and 3rd in our area out of 475 teams.  This is a huge accomplishment and a great start to our judging season!  Leading the team was Whitlee Reed, following close behind her was Konner Windham.  Neck and neck were seniors Alec Lucas and Kamden Lucas, and making her judging debut was Megan Dunn.

The Center FFA and advisors are extremely proud of all members that competed at the Houston Livestock show this year.
