Local Sports Round up 03/20/15; Baseball, softball games still on, SFA basketball teams come up short

Baseball (Today) Weather Permitting:

The #16 state-ranked Center Roughriders and are scheduled to be at district rival Carthage. Center is 2-0 in Dist. 19-4A play. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. with JV.

 

The Joaquin Rams (2-0 dist.) go to Gary.

 

The Timpson Bears (2-0 dist) go to Mt Enterprise.

 

The Tenaha Tigers (0-2 dist.) go to Beckville (2-0 dist.).

 

The Shelbyville Dragons (0-2 dist.) go to Martinsville.

 

The San Augustine Wolves host Chireno.

 

The Broaddus Bulldogs at Colmesneil.

Softball Opening Day Delayed:

 

According to Feather Andrusick, opening day games for Center ASA Softball originally scheduled for Saturday, March 21 has been postponed due to weather. They will reschedule at a later date.

 

Power Lifting:

The girls' state power lifting meet is being held today through Saturday in Corpus Christi. There’s a good representation of local lifters participating.

Shelbyville Girls – After placing second as a team at region the Lady Dragons have 7 at state. Qualifying for the state meet are Cleosha Jeter, Savannah Talbertt, Tristin Wilburn, Kennedy Parker, Harlie Hagler, Katie Kasey and Hannah Hall.

The boys' state meet is next week in Abilene.

 

Soccer:

 

The Rider and Lady Rider Soccer teams will close out the regular season at Hudson tonight. Action starts at 5 p.m. The Riders are 15-4 on the season and will advance to the state playoffs. Their first round game will be next Friday, March 27 against Mexia and will be played in Crockett.

 

College Hoops:

 

Both the SFA Lumberjacks and Lady Jacks were bounced from the post-season last night. The men lose to Utah, 57-50 in Portland, Oregon in a NCAA first-round game. The women were defeated by TCU, 85-80 in Ft. Worth.

 

The San Augustine County Ducks Unlimited Banquet to be held Saturday, March 21 at the San Augustine County Fair Grounds' Show Barn. Doors open at 5:30pm, dinner served at 6pm and Auction starts at 7:15pm. The event will feature a live auction, silent auction, raffles, and games!
