Grab the family and head to the Shelby County Grill Fest Saturday

There will be a haze of great smelling barbecue smoke floating over the Windham Civic Center as the the Shelby County Grill Fest Barbecue Cook-off is held tomorrow.

 

Organizers say the event goes on rain-or-shine.

 

Gates open at noon for spectators with a $10 come-and-go wrist band for indoor and outdoor activities.

 

Cook-off chairman Kim McElroy says weather will not be a problem for attendees.

 

She adds the spacious room availability at the civic center will keep attendees dry and warm. Ms. McElroy said if they need to they would move the washer pitching inside.

 

Ms. McElroy says the Lone Star Barbecue Society sanctioned cook-off is sponsored by Farmers State Bank with cook teams vying for over $6,750 in prize money and trophies. The competition is sponsored by Tyson Foods.

 

Cook-off events begin at 7 p.m. tonight with the 42 Tournament at Sombreros Restaurant.

 

Washer Pitching begins at noon Saturday sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank.

 

Danny Paul Windham and the Pine Hill Review are to play at 3 p.m.

 

Weather permitting a classic car exhibit hosted by the Shelby County Cruisers.

 

Awards will be presented at 5 p.m. sponsored by the City of Center.
