Joaquin City Council agrees on utility connect fee increase, mayor recognizes employees

The Joaquin City Council decided at Monday's meeting to increase the connect fee for water customers and establish a new connect fee for gas customers. The fee will go up to $100 from the current $50 for water and the gas service connect will be $50.

Also, Mayor Mike Wood, who's decided to not seek re-election, made three presentations during the meeting. He recognized Taylor Wilkerson, part-time officer worker at the city who assisted with last year's 100th celebration, as well as City Maintenance Superintendent and Joaquin Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Perry Pugh, and to City Secretary Donna Fitzgerald, who's retiring at the end of the month.

Mayor Wood said he wanted to show his appreciation to those for their hard work.
