Local Sports Round up 03/16/15; teams attempt to make-up missed games, rain may hamper play again, SFA makes NCAA tourney

Baseball:

 

Mother Nature continues to plague baseball game action with rain forcing the cancellation of the Center Roughriders play in Henderson Saturday. Even though officials had tarped the field Friday, unforeseen rain throughout the day Saturday would not allow teams to play.

 

With a good chance of rain forecast again by Tuesday night, we could see another week of rush to catch-up with district games and possible cancellations.

 

The Riders are to return to district play at home Tuesday against Henderson.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons go to the Timpson Bears at 6:30 p.m. tonight. This is a make-up of the district opener cancelled last week.

 

The Tenaha Tigers will be at the Timpson Bears Tuesday.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons travel to state-ranked Beckville Tuesday.

 

The Joaquin Rams will play Mt. Enterprise at 6:30 p.m. in Joaquin today, and hosts Martinsville Tuesday.

 

The San Augustine Wolves host Colmesneil Tuesday.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs go to Central Tuesday.

 

The Broaddus Bulldogs host Zavalla Tuesday.

 

Softball:

 

The Center Lady Riders are scheduled to host Jasper Tuesday. District starts Friday at Tatum.

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams will host Mt. Enterprise at 5 p.m. today, go to Douglass Tuesday, and will attempt to play the make-up game with Wells in Wells Wednesday, weather permitting.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are to host Chireno today and Martinsivlle on Tuesday.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears are home against Gary today and go to Alto Tuesday.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs head to Central Tuesday.

College Hoops:

 

The SFA Lumberjacks are headed to the NCAA Basketball Tournament after winning the Southland Conference Post-Season Tournament, 83-70 over rival Sam Houston State Saturday night in Katy. SFA will meet Utah in a first-round game in Portland, Oregon Thursday. Meanwhile, the SFA Lady Jacks lose to Houston Baptist, 88-81 in the ladies’ semi-final round Friday.

 

 

Shelby County Ducks Unlimited is preparing for its annual Green Wing event at 10 a.m., this Saturday, March 21. The event will be held at Bob & Sheilah Reeves’ residence on County Road 3121 off Hwy. 7 east of Center, right after passing the airport. There will be prizes for all kids, along with Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens providing hunter safety, Mike Hudman with Black Water Retrievers with a dog demo and a free hot dog meal. The San Augustine County Ducks Unlimited Banquet to be held Saturday, March 21 at the San Augustine County Fair Grounds' Show Barn. Doors open at 5:30pm, dinner served at 6pm and Auction starts at 7:15pm. The event will feature a live auction, silent auction, raffles, and games!
