Center's latest sale tax revenue shows increase, Tenaha up 15%, others on decline

State Comptroller Glenn Hegar has distributed $590 million in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments statewide. He says sales tax revenue in February was $2.46 billion, up almost 12 percent compared to February 2014. This month's figures are for January sales.

 

Center's sales tax check for February is up a little over 3 percent (3.18%). The February amount is $208,246.71.

 

City Manager Chad Nehring says the increase is pleasant news. He adds the city remains slightly ahead of annual budget projections for this fiscal year and this upturn defintely helps.

 

Year-to-date, Center trails the 2014 amount by a little over two percent (-2.07%) for revenue this year so far of $776, 144.

 

Nehring commented there are several construction projects both commercially and private that could be helping that sales tax reveue increase.

 

Elsewhere in Shelby County, Tenaha was the only other town with an increase, some 15 percent better than last year at $5,820.17.

 

Joaquin and Timpson's February sales tax checks were from 12 to 13 percent below this time in 2014 ($14,158 & $12,708 respectively).

 

Huxley's check amount has dropped almost 68 percent ($353).

 

The City of San Augustine's February sales tax revenue check is up almost 22 percent to $23,628, and a 13.5 percent increase for the year. Broaddus' February sales tax revenue is down almost 16 percent ($1,933) from this time in 2014.
