Shelby County Commissioners' Court tables lease of building for Pct. 5 JP, exploring portable building

Shelby County Commissioners’ Court tabled several agenda items pertaining to JP Pct. 5 at Monday’s meeting.

County Judge Allison Harbison said no action was taken on a lease agreement for a building on the Timpson Square that’s currently serving as Judge Michael Crouch’s office. Instead, she said the county is exploring the possible purchase of a portable building to house the JP & Constable Pct. 5 office, and looking to place that building, with approval, on City of Timpson owned property near city hall. The JP Pct. 5 office was moved from city hall at the end of the year as the City of Timpson said they needed more space for their police department.

Commissioners also tabled payment of utilities and purchase of a two-way radio for Judge Crouch.

The court took no action on approving closure by TxDOT of FM 415 at Bear Bayou in the Silas Community for new bridge construction. Judge Harbison said commissioners have asked for a two-week extension to see if a detour could be made around the bridge. In a letter to the court, the state is saying construction of such detour would be expensive with right-of-way acquisition. TxDOT is saying bridge construction could take some four months.

Commissioners also decided to distribute the Child Safety Fee Fund the same as last year—65 percent to the Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center ($11,259.30) and 35 percent to CASA ($3,940.76). This money is collected from vehicle registration in the county.

Approval was also given on the purchase of right-of-way in Pct. 1 from Hancock Forest Management for TxDOT bridge project for $2,500 and the county pays the closing costs.
