San Augustine Traffic Circle redesign kick-off set with ground-breaking this morning

TxDOT and local officials will kick-off the redesign of the long-time San Augustine traffic circle today when a ground-breaking is held at 10 a.m., followed by a ceremony and reception at 10:30 a.m. at the San Augustine County Courthouse.

The project will include a complete make-over with traffic lights and create a safer area. The total cost is estimated at more than $3.9 million and is expected to be completed by late summer.

TxDOT Lufkin Engineer Cheryl Flood said the district has been working with the city and county to make these intersection improvements for several years.  Motorists should be prepared slow down or stop as traffic could be diverted through the work zone.

Traffic control will be administered by the San Augustine Police Department and traffic fines double when workers are present.

Guest speakers at today’s ceremony include legislative representatives, TxDOT officials, county and city officials, construction company representatives as well as officials with local community organizations.
