Effort underway to have stretch of Nacogdoches County road named in honor of Country Music's Bob Luman

An effort is underway to dedicate a portion of highway in Nacogdoches County to the late Country Music artist Bob Luman.

David Stallings, a longtime music and entertainment promoter and producer from Nacogdoches tells us he been working with State Rep. Travis Clardy’s office and TxDOT to make it happen.

Luman was from the Blackjack community east of Nacogdoches, was a member of the Louisiana Hayride, The Grand Ole Opry, and Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, and Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

Stallings is to meet with a legislative committee regarding the bill in Austin today.

He says the final decision will rest with the Nacogdoches County Commissioners’ Court.

Stallings said signs for the designation will not cost the county or taxpayer anything.

A number of Luman’s family members still reside in Nacogdoches County.

Luman’s hits included, “Let’s Think About Livin’”, “Lonely Women Make Good Lovers”, and “Ain’t Got time to be Unhappy”.

Bob Luman passed away in Nashville of pneumonia in 1979 at age 41.
