Shelby County Grill Fest adds competition

The Shelby County Grill Fest Barbecue Cook-off presented by Farmers State bank is right around the corner.  The “Chillin’ & Grillin” will take place on Saturday, March 21 on the grounds of the Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas.  
 
The barbecue cook-off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society and will feature three cooking categories according to Chairman Kimberly McElroy. Cook teams may enter the Pinto Bean Cook-Off as well. Tyson Foods is the gold sponsor of Grill Fest. 
 
Cook Teams and the public are invited to participate in a Dessert Cook-Off. Desserts may be prepared on-site or off-site. There will be a $10 entry fee per dessert with a jackpot prize, trophy and bragging rights. 
 
The day’s events will begin at 12 noon for spectators. The crowd will be entertained from the outdoor stage with live music sponsored by Cellular One and the Windham Civic Center. The 42 Tournament will be held in Foster Hall at the Civic Center. Entries will be accepted for the Washer Pitching Contest and there will be an outdoor Show & Shine Classic Car exhibit will be hosted by the Shelby County Cruisers.  
 
Tasting samples from Grill Fest will be shared during the afternoon by purchasing a come-and-go entrance wristband for $10.  An awards presentation sponsored by the City of Center will round out the day with prize checks and trophies.
