Although jobless numbers are down from a year ago, they are back up slightly compared last month.
According to information released by the Texas Workforce Commission Friday, unemployment region-wide has increased from December to January.
In Shelby County the January unemployment is 5 percent, up from 4.7 in December, which compares to 6.8 percent in January 2014.
In San Augustine County, the current rate is 9.2 percent, a slight increase from 8.7 percent in December 2014, and below the 10.9 percent in January 2014.
Other neighboring counties' January jobless rates: Sabine-9.9 percent; Nacogdoches-4.8 percent; Angelina-4.8 percent; and Panola County-4.4 percent. Statewide, the rate fell to 4.4 percent in January, down form 4.6 percent in December.
