"Brand" Names Litter 2A Region III Field

Lipan, Waskom, Martin's Mill, Cayuga, and Grapeland are basketball powerhouses who have risen to the challenge of making a Regional Tournament and playing the Tenaha Tigers.  Tonight, the Tigers will add the LaPoynor Flyers to the talent-laden list of Regional Semi-Final foes for Tenaha. Many "name" programs have come, gone, and come again.  But, for Tenaha,
eleven trips in the last fourteen years makes competing in the Regional Tournament a "near annual" event.

The Tigers enter the Region III Tournament unranked and with an 18-11 record, due mostly in part to yet another late start because of the state football playoffs and partly because of early season injuries.  Undoubtedly, the Tigers enter as a heavy underdog.  Joining Tenaha and the #8 ranked Flyers is the 5:00 PM matchup between state ranked #1 Dallardsville Big Sandy and #9 Kerens.   Based on rank and "brand name" recognition, this year's Regional field is reminiscent of the last time Tenaha entered as arguably the 4th best team.  That was 2011, when the Tiger "Giant Killers" miraculously erased a 26 point deficit against state #4 Cayuga, and then a
19 point deficit against state #2 Clarksville to advance to the state Tournament.

Tiger fans planning on travelling to Leon High School for tonight's 7:30 PM tip are encouraged to travel to Palestine and get on Hwy 79 West (or South depending on signage).  From there, after travelling through Buffalo, Leon High School will be on the right just a couple of miles beyond the small community of Jewett, Texas.

The winners of tonight's Semi-Final matchups will meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM for the right to advance to the state tournament in San Antonio at the Alamo Dome next week.

Let's get the Maroon Army headed West tonight and watch our Tigers battle among the best!!!!
