Art, Design, Clothing and Fashion Fun Youth Workshop Slated

Are you into art, design, clothing, and/or fashion?  Then the 2015 4-H Clothing and Textiles project is for you!  Youth in grades 3 through 12 are invited to participate, you need not be a member of 4-H to join in the fun, but you can sign-up for 4-H at the meeting, if desired.  This project club will meet on Sunday, March 15th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the active Shelby County Courthouse, 2nd floor meeting room.  There is no fee to participate in this workshop; however, the annual fee to join 4-H is $25.

Workshop activities include creating art and other projects from duct tape, participating on a team to design a fashion item from fabric, and beginning machine sewing to create a wall hanging (sewing machines and instruction will be provided). Don’t worry if you’ve never tried these projects before!  If you are at all interested, come and have fun learning and doing.

The clothing and textiles project allows youth the opportunity to make a style of their own, be creative in sewing and designing, use basis sewing skills, develop good consumer skills when making and purchasing clothes, and serve the community by using skills learned in this project. It also focuses on helping young people gain a positive self-concept and be able to confidently put themselves out into the world.

Stay tuned as we will have a part 3 workshop later in April to explore more fashion fun – including a field trip to a local clothing store for a behind the scene look and buying and design.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend the March 15th workshop by calling Jheri-Lynn McSwain, CEA-FCS at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Shelby County at 936-598-7744 or email at jheri-lynn.smith@ag.tamu.edu.
