Tigers Just One Win Away from Amazing Feat

Perceived as an underdog last Friday in Joaquin, The Tenaha Tigers faced long time rival San Augustine.  The Wolves, who had won the District 23-2A Championship stormed into this year’s playoffs with aspirations of making a run at the Region III Tournament at Leon High School.  However, the Tigers, who have battled injuries, a difficult schedule, and a late start due to the football state playoffs, sliced and attacked their way to a 63-49 win over San Augustine.  Now just 16-11 on the season, the Tigers are ready to be proverbial “fly in the soup” for yet another Region III favorite.

Tonight in Hallsville at 7:00 PM, the Tigers take on New Summerfield in the Regional Quarterfinals.  At stake for the winner is a trip to the Regional Tournament in Jewett, TX at Leon High School against either top 10 ranked LaPoynor or Cross Roads this Friday night at 7:30 PM.  If the Tigers win tonight, it would mean Tenaha’s 11th trip to a Regional Tournament in the last 14 years, and the 6th time under 8th year Head Coach Todd Bodden.  The Tigers lost a early January game to New Summerfield in the SEC 54-50 and had their chances in spite of the absence of Senior Point Guard Tyler Davison who tallied a near triple double against San Augustine with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Davison, and the rest of t he Tigers, are not only healthy for tonight’s game, they are hungry.  We are peaking at playoff time yet again, and we encourage everyone to get to Hallsville tonight to cheer the Tigers back to Regionals.
Tickets are $5 and $3.  Only District 22-2A passes are accepted as well as THSCA, and TABC.  Hallsville's new coliseum is located at the new high school in Hallsville on Highway 80 on the west side (Longview side) of Hallsville.
