Prospective candidates have one more week to file for city, school board races

We're down to one week left to file for a position on the ballot for the May 9 city and school board elections. Next Friday, Feb. 27 is the filing deadline.

In the Joaquin ISD, Thomas Harvey has been the lone filer, as positions held by Luke Garrett and Ronnie Belrose will be expiring.

For the City of Joaquin, incumbent council members LeeVern Stotts Gilliam and Mike Atkinson have both filed to run again. Two current Joaquin City Council members have filed to run for the seat of mayor, as Bill Baker and Pat Gray will be running.

There has been one filing for the Tenaha ISD board as Joe Anderson has submitted paperwork. The positions held by Bo Morris, Robert Barton and June Swint are up.

In the City of Tenaha Council race, Larry Terry has filed for re-election. Claudine Howard and Michael Baker’s spots on the council are also expiring.

At the Timpson ISD board member Dannie Hunt has filed for re-election, with seats held by Tracy Hooper and Beth Tipton up.

At the Timpson City Council, there is a correction as as only one person has filed, that's Linda Hancock. The three incumbents have not filed, including Kyle Allen, Janell Baker and George Grace.

In the Shelbyville ISD board of trustees, incumbents Joe Tom Schillings and Etola Jones have re-filed, so has challenger Chris Koltonski.

If you’re interested in a position you can file at the respective school administration or city office by next Friday, Feb. 27.
