Local Sports Round up 02/19/15; Tenaha Lady Tigers enter state playoffs tonight, girl softball teams involved in tourney action, Rider Baseball scrimmages at Pollock Central today

High School Basketball:

 

Girls’ Playoffs:

 

Class 2A Area

 

Tenaha Lady Tigers vs. Colmesneil, at 6:30 p.m., tonight, Pineland-West Sabine High School. Winner will play the Evadale-Carlisle winner in the regional quarterfinal round.

 

Shelbyville Lady Dragons vs. Broaddus Lady Bulldogs, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hemphill ISD. Winner gets the Cushing-Big Sandy winner in the regional quarterfinals.

 

Class 3A Area:

 

Garrison Lady Bulldogs vs. Anahuac, 8 p.m. Friday, Woodville. Winner will play winner of Central Heights-Buna game in regional quarterfinals.

 

Central Heights Lady Blue Devils vs. Buna, 6 p.m., Friday, Livingston High School.

 

Woden vs. East Chambers, 6 p.m., Friday, Woodville

 

Class A Area:

 

Chireno vs. Abbott, 8 p.m., Friday, Leon-Jewett High School 

 

 

Boys' Basketball:

 

The Center Roughriders have a share of the Dist. 19-4A championship and are headed to the playoffs, but they must play one more game against a district opponent as they take on Tatum at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Gary to determine playoff seeding. Center and Tatum split during the regular season. The winner will get Jasper in bi-district, while the #2 seed has Huntington.

 

The 9th Grade Center Roughrider basketball team took the Dist. 19-4A championship Tuesday night with a 57-24 win over Henderson. The Rider JV also end the season with a 68-46 win.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons have a first-round bye and must wait the result of the West Sabine-Evadale bi-district game to see who they’ll play in area.

 

The Tenaha Tigers will take on Cushing in a Class 2A bi-district game at 6 p.m. Monday in Cushing. Both schools agreed to a home-and-home coin flip and Cushing won. The winner will meet San Augustine.

 

The Timpson Bears will have Carlisle in a first-round playoff game. The site, day and time for that game has not been determined.

 

The San Augustine Wolves have a first-round bye thanks to winning Dist. 23-2A and will get the Tenaha-Cushing winner in area.

 

College Hoops:

 

The SFA Lumberjacks return home to play Nicholls State in a double-header with the LadyJacks Saturday.

 

Golf:

 

The Center Roughrider Golf Team played at Emerald Bay Country Club in Bullard again Wednesday. After winning the event their last week, the team did not place. Junior Beau Buster Byrnes was third medallist with a 77, Austin Craig finished is sixth with an 80, and Rex Kirkley shot a 94. Craig and Kirkley are sophomores.

 

Soccer:

 

The Center Riders and Lady Riders have a bye Friday and will return to action at home against Hudson Feb. 24.

 

Softball:

 

The Center Lady Riders will be at the Hudson Tourney beginning today.

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams will start the season today in the Carthage Tournament.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears will be in the Hudson Tournament today to open the season.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs are in the Longview Tournament thru Saturday.

 

Baseball:

 

The Center Riders’ will scrimmage with Central at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon at Pollock Central. The Riders are scheduled to have their final scrimmage at home against Jasper this Friday starting with JV at 4:30 p.m.

 

The Center Roughrider Baseball program is sponsoring a benefit Hit-a-Thon at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roughrider Field. Players are hoping to raise at least $5,000 for the program to help off-set expenses. Players have been asking for donations and any help would be appreciated. The hit-a-thon’s format will have each Rider getting 10 pitches, with the total distance hit, multiplied what was pledged per foot the amount raised by the player. The Shelbyville Dragons are scheduled to scrimmage West Sabine at 5 p.m. today in Shelbyville.

 

The Joaquin Rams will be in the Stanley Jamboree Saturday.


The high school regular season begins next Monday, Feb. 23.

 

Power Lifting:

Center High School will be hosting an invitational at Center High School Gym at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

 

College Track & Field:

SFA completes the team sweep at the 2015 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships! The team indoor titles are the first for both the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks since the 2013 season.

 

Semi-Pro Football:

The East Texas Oilers will kick-off their season at 3 p.m. Saturday at Roughrider Stadium. The full-contact team has a number of players from the area, and will play all their home games in Center. The Oilers will play the Louisiana Lightning Saturday.

 

The San Augustine Lions Sporting Clay Shoot will be held this Saturday, Feb. 21 at Fairway Farm, located five miles east of San Augustine on Hwy. 21. All proceeds benefit Texas Lions’ Camp, local charities and scholarships. The shoot will consist of four or five person teams. Individuals are welcome and everyone will be placed on a team. There will be one flight beginning at 10 a.m., registration starts at 8 a.m. Fee is $100 per shooter. Food, drinks and prizes will be provided. A special brass plated lever-action Henry rifle donated by T-Roy Broussard from the “Swamp People” TV show will be auctioned and another Henry rifle will be awarded to the “top shooter”. The Logansport Chamber of Commerce will have their 8th annual Sand Bass Tournament Saturday, March 14. Entry fee is $150 per team, with an optional $50 per team for Big Bass. Fishing begins at 6 a.m., and boats must be landed on Toledo Bend or the Sabine River. Fishing on the bank is also allowed. First-place will pay $5,000. Prize money payouts are based on a minimum of 75 teams entered. A copy of the tournament rules and an entry form is available at Center Broadcasting, 307 San Augustine St. in Center.
