Third man dies from injuries sustained in train-truck collision in DeSoto Parish

A third man has died from injuries sustained in a train-truck collision Monday in DeSoto Parish.

Authorities say 35-year old Herbert Barras III of Charenton was transported from the crash scene just south of Longstreet to University Health in Shreveport and died overnight Monday.

Barras was a passenger in a pickup driven by 23-year old John Watson of Centerville, LA. Watson and another passenger, 25-year old Michael Ryder II of Goldonna, LA, died at the scene.

The crash took place around 1 p.m. Monday on a private lease road off State Hwy. 5 that leads to an oilfield site.

The railroad crossing is not marked with lights, gates or bells, but does have cross bucks and a stop sign.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Watson, but impairment is not suspected.
