Also this week, Banks, the Post Office, federal and state offices, along with county courthouses are all closed Monday. City and town offices around the area are also closed for business Monday.

As for schools, not all districts are observing the holiday. The Center ISD and Joaquin ISD will not have classes Monday, it’s a staff development day. Check with your child’s school to make sure.

By the way, the Center ISD “Flags to Fight Hunger” flag rental program will be displaying American flags Monday. If you would like to have a flag placed at your home or business, or 5 other holidays during the year, contact Center High School Counselor Alease Copelin.

The program supports the schools’ Backpack Program-which goes to the East Texas Food Bank, providing child friendly snacks each weekend to food insecure children.
