City of Center seeking grant money for computer upgrade at police department

At the Center City Council meeting Monday, council gave approval for a grant application with the U.S. Dept. of Justice for the Justice Assistance Grant program.

According to City Manager Chad Nehring the monies would allow for major technology upgrades to the computer and server at the Center Police Dept.

He said the current system is close to 10 years old and rapidly becoming obsolete. Nehring said the city meets all the current criteria and eligibility for application. However, he said the county's case disposition rate could ultimately restrict the ability to obtain funding. He said the city is requesting clarification on the county criteria. He said the action Monday did not authorize any purchases at this time, nor advance funding or expense in anticipation of grant funding.

The grant amount was not made available.

Approval and acceptance was given to the annual Racial Profiling Report. Nehring said the report includes the mandatory level of data and review required that will be forwarded to the state.
