Monday's area-wide power outage caused by SWEPCO transformer failure on line feeding DETEC

The cause of Monday morning’s power outage according to DETEC’s Brittany Johnson is reportedly a failed transformer arrestor on the SWEPCO line that feeds some 12 DETEC substations in Shelby, San Augustine and Sabine Counties.

Those substations include Center, Center South, Hilltop, Holly, San Augustine, Bronson, Blank Ankle, Pendleton, Hemphill, Six Mile, Hurstown and Huxley.

Ms. Johnson said the outage affected approximately 17,400 meters served by DETEC.

All of SWEPCO’s Shelby County customers, which is almost 3,300 were out from 2:30 a.m. to 5:45 a.m.

Ms. Johnson said SWEPCO crews were dispatched to the site of the issue to make the repair.
