Timpson ISD Trustees to consider dropping girls' volleyball program at meeting tonight

The Timpson ISD Board of Trustees have a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

However, before that, a public meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. to allow for input on dropping the girls’ volleyball program at Timpson ISD.

At the regular meeting the agenda items for consideration and approval will be alteration of athletic program, which is volleyball.

Timpson ISD Superintendent Dr. Mid Johnson sent a letter to parents last month saying that due to volleyball occurring during a busy fall time of year, it did not allow time for sufficient attendance at band, twirling, cheerleading and FFA practice, and made it difficult for involved students to become successful in any of the activities.

He said Timpson ISD made compromises and adjusted schedules, “but, to be successful we must openly evaluate where these conditions have led us, compared to where we want to be.”

The Timpson school board is also expected to call a trustee election for May 9; and give approval of the scholarship selection committee.

Trustees are also expected to approve Athletic Director James Conway’s contract, and the contracts of administrators, director and coordinator.
