Shelby County Commissioners' Court votes to dissolve recently created Indigent Healthcare Coordinator's position

After one month, the position of Indigent Heatlth Care Coordinator in Shelby County was dis-solved at Monday's meeting of the Shelby County Commissioners' Court.

By a 3-2 vote, with County Judge Allison Harbison casting the deciding vote, the position created when former judge Rick Campbell was still in office, and the subsequent hiring of former County Treasurer assistant Terry Ford to fill the job, will be no more effective this Friday, Jan. 16.

Voting against the motion were Commissioners Travis Rodgers and Bradley Allen. Rodgers questioned not having a full-time employee may slow down the indigent healthcare application process?

Judge Harbison said her secretary, Sandra Green, along with part-time Indigent Healthcare employee Ethel Holder, as well as herself, will be able to handle and process applications effectively and efficiently.

Judge Harbison said during the court session, "I promise the ball will not be dropped."

Judge Harbison also said that's she's had a tough time dealing with the IHC coordinator position hiring and its $32,000 salary knowning three deputies were lost at the sheriff's office and other cutbacks last year.
