Cold front passage prompts Tornado Warning for Shelby County Saturday, confirmed twister touches down in Jasper County, no injuries

The cold front passage Saturday prompted some reports of severe storm reports over southern parts of the area.

The National Weather Service is saying they received confirmation of thunderstorm wind damage in the Huxley area around 1:15 p.m., in addition to quarter to almost one-inch hail in southern Nacogdoches County. There were also several thunderstorm wind damage reports in Angelina County.

The NWS issued a tornado warning for Shelby County, DeSoto & Sabine Parishes at 1:12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. as trained weather spotters reported a funnel cloud 18 miles southeast of Center moving northeast at 40 mph. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says they received no confirmation by residents or any related reports of storm damage reports.

We should have dry-cool to cold weather at least through Wednesday thanks to an Artic High, before our next system brings a chance of rain New Year’s Day through Friday with slightly warmer temperatures.
The weather wasn’t quite as nice in southern Jasper County Saturday as a reported EF-1 tornado destroyed a home and damaged another, and also leveled or damaged barns, storage buildings and other structures between Jasper and Kirbyville around 2:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. An EF-1 tornado has winds of 86-110 miles-per-hour, and meteorologist said they believe this twister had winds in excess of 100 MPH.
