It's official....Center Emergency Department to open at 8 a.m. Monday

Nacogdoches Medical Center’s new Shelby County emergency department and diagnostic imaging center will officially open at 8 a.m. Monday morning.

That announcement came during an open house Thursday afternoon for the new Center Emergency Department.

The hospital gave community leaders an opportunity to see the $7 million facility up close and view the state-of-the art equipment.

Medical Center Governing Board of Directors Chairman Frances Spruiell said the hospital was thrilled with the opportunity they have in Shelby County. She added this is a great Christmas gift for the county.

Center Emergency Department has 40 employees with a 24/7 ER, lab, pharmacy and diagnostic imaging suite with digital x-ray, 64-slice CT and ultrasound.

On-site manager is RN and Shelby County native Tammy Hanson.

Chief Operating Officer Clay Farrell told the gathering yesterday Center Emergency Department’s ER is expected to see upwards of 20 patients a day, with the imaging department to have around 30 imaging clients daily.

Farrell said the new Center facility has been a partnership effort and said appreciation is due to the City of Center, Shelby County, the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and ACE EMS among other emergency care providers that service the area.

Center Mayor David Chadwick said the facility is “top drawer” and is an asset to not just Center, but neighbors as well.

The opening of Center Emergency Department at 8 a.m. Monday will fill a big healthcare void as the county has been without emergency medical services for almost 18 months.
