Local Sports Round up 12/19/14; Riders beat Spring Hill in Tatum tournament, to play Marshall at 1 p.m., Waskom, Bremond take state football titles

The Texas high school football state championships are being determined thru Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Class 2A & 3A title games were played Thursday.

In high school basketball:

 

The Center Roughriders opened play in the Tatum tournament Thursday with a 65-56 win over Spring Hill. The Riders’ next game is 1 p.m. today against Marshall. A win and Center plays at 5:30 p.m. today, should they lose, they’ll hit the court at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

The JV & Freshmen Riders are in Cushing at 5 p.m. today.

 

By the way, all Rider teams will be in Hallsville Monday with games starting at 1 p.m.

 

The Center Lady Riders are home against Huntington starting at 5 p.m. today.

 

The San Augustine Wolves will be in Hudson tonight.

 

The Tenaha Tigers are in the Martins Mill Tourney. On Thursday, the host #3 state-ranked Martins Mill takes a 67-42 win. Tenaha plays Paradise at 11:40 a.m. this morning & Callisburg at 8 p.m. tonight.

 

The Tenaha Lady Tigers are home against San Augustine today at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons will host Burkeville today at 5 p.m.

 

The Timpson Bears and Lady Bears go to Overton tonight starting at 5 p.m.

 

The Joaquin Rams and Lady Rams host New Summerfield getting underway at 3:30 p.m.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs have district games at home against Hemphill tonight.

 

Martinsville teams will be at Broaddus today beginning at 1 p.m.

 

The Tenaha ISD will host the 6th annual Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic December 29, 30, and 31. Forty of the state’s top boys and girls Class 1A, 2A, and 3A programs will descend upon Tenaha for an opportunity to battle it out on the hardwood for what has become one of Texas’ top invitational tournament trophies. The tourney will include 71 games over three days being played in Tenaha, Gary, Joaquin and Carthage. Games tip-off at 8 a.m. Monday.
