Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon's trial date has been set for March 9, 2015 on charges of making terroristic threats against members of the Newton County Commissioners' Court.

Senior Judge Joe Ned Dean of Groveton signed an order setting the date. Judge Dean has previously signed an order granting Shannon's motion for a change of venue, ordering that the case be transferred to San Augustine County and be heard by a jury of San Augustine County residents.

Judge Dean was assigned to preside over the case after Newton County District Court Judges Jerome Owens and Craig Mixson both recused themselves.
