Local Sports Round up 12/17/14; Riders lose in Hudson, Tenaha sweeps Broaddus

In boys’ high school varsity basketball last night, the Center Roughriders come up short on the road at Hudson, 57-66. The Rider JV loses, 48-55, and the Rider Freshmen get the only win of the night, 50-40.

 

Center will be playing in the Tatum Tournament Thursday thru Saturday.

In San Augustine, the No. 10 ranked Wolves fall to Diboll, 62-66. San Augustine boys and girls will be in Hudson Friday night.

 

In girls’ action last night, the Garrison Lady Bulldogs are 1-1 in district after a 48-28 win over Woodville.

 

It was a good night for the Tenaha Tigers and Lady Tigers in Broaddus as they get a sweep. The Varsity Tigers take a 63-59 win, the Lady Tigers take a 53-40 victory, the JV Lady Tigers come out with a 22-21 win, and the JV boys are on top, 35-25.

 

The Tenaha Tigers will be in the Martins Mill Tourney starting Thursday, while the Lady Tigers are home against San Augustine Friday.

 

For the 6th consecutive year, Tenaha ISD will host the Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic on December 29, 30, and 31. Forty of the state’s top Class 1A, 2A, and 3A programs will descend upon Tenaha for an opportunity to battle it out on the hardwood for what has become one of Texas’ top invitational tournament trophies. The tourney will include 71 games over three days being played in Tenaha, Gary, Joaquin and Carthage.

 

In college hoops tonight, the SFA Lumberjacks will host former coach Danny Kaspar and the Texas State Bobcats in a 7 p.m. tip-off at Johnson Coliseum. SFA puts a six-game winning streak on the line.
