San Augustine civic leader, Woodrow "Woody" Harrison passes away

It is with regret that we inform you that our Leader, Friend, and Chairman of the City of San Augustine Main Street Advisory Board has passed from this life.  Here is a short biography.

Born in 1942 in Houston, TX, Woody Harrison spent his entire professional
life serving his country via the Defense Department, first  as a career US Army officer and then as an engineering services contractor for various Pentagon projects, finally retiring and settling in San Augustine in 2005, where he and his wife, Glenda, have been extensively involved in community and civic activities (he was the 2012 recipient of the Community Impact Volunteer of the Year Award for the area covering 13 East Texas Counties).


He has a Bachelor of Science degree, a double Masters (Management and Public Administration), and over 40 years of leadership experience in both the Military (decorated Vietnam combat helicopter gunship pilot) and the Defense Industry (senior engineering management executive).  In San Augustine, he served three terms as Chamber of Commerce President, and is currently serving in his fifth term as Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as his third term as County Chairman for the Republican Party.

 

Woody and Glenda have two adult children: daughter Divini, age 46, living in Dallas with her 16-year old daughter, Misty; and son, Houston, age 43 (a disabled US Navy Veteran) living in Texarkana.
