Vehicle strikes horse as rider avoids stop sign in Timpson Sunday evening

A man on horseback was taken to a Nacogdoches hospital for observation after the animal was struck by a vehicle in Timpson after dark.

Timpson Police Officer Michael Williams says James Bryant of Nacogdoches was riding south on Garrison Street at the old Hwy. 59 intersection shortly after 6 p.m. when he failed to come to a stop and yield ride-a-way to a Chevy Blazer driven by Kelli Amos Holloway of Timpson.

The impact knocked Bryant from the horse, with the animal apparently OK, but left the scene.

Ms. Amos’ vehicle received substantial damage. She and her three young children were uninjured.

Officer Williams said no citation will be issued.

Bryant was taken from the scene by Timpson EMS.
