Cattle thief taken into custody after search in Panola County Tuesday

A multi-agency search for a cattle theft in Panola County earlier this week resulted in the arrest of an Arkansas man Tuesday night.

Authorities converged on Panola Livestock Auction Tuesday before noon to the report of possible stolen livestock. As they were inspecting the animals, they saw the man who brought the cattle to the sale barn fleeing in a Dodge pickup.

A pursuit into Carthage and out Hwy. 149 led to the man abandoning the vehicle on Luminant Beckville Mine property after crashing through a gate. Tracking dogs from Hallsville, a DPS helicopter and numerous authorities on foot combed the area in search of the man.

The suspect is 25-year old Bradley Wayne Guthrey of North Little Rock.

Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake said the arrest cleared up at least four other cattle thefts between Panola County and the Hearne area.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Larry Hand and other members of the enforcement division confirmed that the trailer the suspect left at the sale barn is reported stolen out of Falls County, near Waco, and it is believed that the cattle are possibly stolen from the same area, or possibly from a location near Falls County.
