Local Sports Round up 12/10/14; Laneville edges San Augustine in battle of state-ranked

The showdown in San Augustine last night between two state-ranked basketball teams went the way of the visitors, as Class 1A # 2 ranked Laneville takes a 72-56 win over Class 2A #7 ranked San Augustine.

 

Elsewhere,

 

The Center Lady Riders get a 50-27 win over Waskom in varsity action, while the JV Lady Riders come away with a 35-32 win.

 

Both Tenaha Lady Tiger teams come up with wins last night, as the Varsity Lady Tigers defeat Mt. Enterprise, 44-20, and the JV Lady Tigers over Mt. Enterprise, 38-18.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears defeat LaTexo, 46-39.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs open district play with Woden coming away with a 40-37 win.

 

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ weekly rankings have the San Augustine Wolves still at #7 in the Class 2A rankings. Meanwhile, Laneville is #2 in Class A and Douglass #20. In 3A, Crockett is #18, Central Heights #20, and Tatum is #24 in Class 4A.

 

The Center JV & Freshmen Roughriders will not be playing in the Garrison tournament this week after it was cancelled. The Varsity Riders will travel to the Central Heights’ tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

 

The San Augustine Wolves are also taking part in the Central Heights' tourney. Several boys and girls teams are in the Gary Tournament starting Thursday. They include the San Augustine Lady Wolves, the Timpson Bears and Lady Bears, and Joaquin Rams and Lady Rams.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are scheduled to be in Newton Friday, that could change with Newton's football team in the state football playoffs, as will the Tenaha Lady Tigers' game with Quitman Friday.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs are in the Frankston tourney Thursday thru Saturday.

 

The Center Lady Riders will be at Hudson Friday with two games starting at 5 p.m.

 

Tenaha ISD announced the teams for the 6th annual Tenaha Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic Dec. 29-31, and the field includes 41 teams--21 girls and 20 boys. Several stated ranked teams from 1A to 3A are included. 

 

The Tenaha Tigers are headed to their fourth consecutive state semi-final appearance in the high school football playoffs and will take on (13-0) Bremond at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Nacogdoches at SFA’s Homer Bryce Stadium. The Tenaha-Bremond winner will play the Seagraves-Albany winner (game being played in Snyder Friday) for the 2A, Div. II State Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington next week.
