Center woman pleads guilty to lesser charge in man's death and is released

Pleading guilty to lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide and having already served the sentencing days, has set a Center woman free after being accused of killing a man in March 2012.

After being charged originally with first-degree murder, 36-year old Rebecca Gale Fountain was able to get out of jail on credit for time served, after pleading guilty yesterday. Fountain was sentenced to 649 days in jail. She's been out for a year.

She was arrested for the stabbing death of 39-year old Mark Allen Ray of Nacogdoches, who was found dead at a home in the 9200 block of Hwy. 7 West.

Fountain’s court-appointed attorney, Robert Goodwin said she acted in self defense.

If you remember, it was during a pre-trial hearing for Fountain that Goodwin and District Attorney Kenneth Florence exchanged words, and Goodwin reportedly threw a binder at the DA, striking DA investigator Bobby Carlsen in District Judge Charles “Brick” Dickerson’s courtroom
