Four Center City Council members to begin new terms today, possible approval of Hutcherson Drive construction bid despite state request/demands

Center City Council will meet at 5 p.m. today with a rather lengthy agenda.

Among the items will be administering the oath of office to the four council positions beginning new terms, they include Charles Rushing, Jim Forbes, Leigh Porterfield and Jerry Lathan. The selection of a Mayor Pro Tem will also take place.

Council may possibly award a bid on the construction of the Hutcherson Drive street project at the new Center Motor Company site.

City Manager Chad Nehring said TxDOT has made some request/demands that have “significantly impacted” the projected budget. He said the city is attempting to appeal those demands, which includes a deceleration lane necessitating relocation of sidewalks.

Nehring said timing is important, and the bid could be tentatively awarded pending the funding options.

Center City Council is also expected to award bid on utility treatment chemicals, adopting a Water Conservation & Drought Contingency Plan and application for US HUD funds, authorizing land acquisition for sewer system rehab work, authorizing the OK on phone and computer system upgrades and improvements, authorizing a contract for sludge lagoon maintenance at the water treatment plants, and award grant management contract to Gary Traylor & Associates for the 2014 Downtown Revitalization Texas Capital Fund Project.
