Missing Shelby County hunter found safe, confused Sunday morning

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reported at 4:25pm on Saturday afternoon, a call came in of a possible kidnapping off of CR 1012.  The caller stated that his brother, 54 year old Terry Harrington, had been hunting and started texting him about persons holding him hostage.  The messages had stopped around 4PM.

Sheriff’s deputies, investigators, TDC K-9 Unit, Shelby County Game Wardens, Texas Ranger and a number of volunteers from Shelby County and from Vidor assisted in combing the area in search of the missing hunter. A search by the TDC K-9 unit did not locate the missing subject.

The search was called off after midnight and resumed early Sunday morning.  At approximately 10:20am, the missing hunter was located safe, but extremely confused.  Mr. Harrington was released to his family.

Sheriff Blackwell wanted to thank all that were involved in the search which thankfully had a good outcome.  He stated the search was difficult for many reasons, including the fact that it is deer season and he worried about searchers being in the woods and hunters not knowing they were in the area.  But all ended well thanks to complete cooperation among all the agencies involved.
