Local Sports Round up 11/25/14; Riders tip-off season at home with Central, state-ranked San Augustine at Shelbyville

The Center Roughriders’ Basketball teams will be playing their season opener against Central at home today beginning at 5 PM in the Center High School Gym. Freshmen will tip things off, followed by Junior Varsity and then Varsity. The Varsity Riders will also be participating in the Burger King Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28th and 29th. Those games will be played at the Whitehouse High School gym, instead of at UT-Tyler. On Friday, they will face Jacksonville at 6 PM and on Saturday they will play Lindale at 4:30 PM.

 

Other boys' basketball today, the #6 state-ranked San Augustine Wolves go to the Shelbyville Dragons.

 

Girls, the Center Lady Riders head to the Garrison Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m. this afternoon, Carthage will be in Shelbyville to play the Lady Dragons in a 2 p.m. start; the Joaquin Lady Rams go to Marshall for a 5 p.m. start, and the Tenaha Lady Tigers go to Big Sandy for a 1 p.m. tip.

 

High school basketball yesterday, the Chireno Lady Owls take a 43-33 win over the Tenaha Lady Tigers.

 

Tough road-trip for the Panola Ponies to Beeville Saturday, as Panola College falls to Coastal Bend, 77-45. Panola will be in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight against Lamar State College-Port Arthur at Carthage High School. Fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable items as the Ponies are conducting a Thanksgiving food drive.

 

Meanwhile, the Panola Fillies opened up conference play with an 83-61 win over Coastal Bend Saturday. The Fillies are 6-2 on the season, and try to make it back-to-back conference wins this evening in a 5:30 p.m. game against Jacksonville Baptist College at Carthage High School.

 

The (9-1) Tenaha Tigers will play (8-4) Normangee in a Class 2A, Div. II region semi-final football game at 6 p.m. Friday in Bullard.  The winner will get the winner of the other region semi-final between Iola and Chilton being played at 7 p.m. Friday in Bryan.
