Sherman becomes Panola College Foundation chair

Robert A.Sherman began his term as Chair in September 2014 and has been a
member of the Panola College Foundation for 5 years. He served as the Vice
Chair on the foundation from 2012-2014 and has also served on the
foundation’s Investment Committee for four years and the Grant Committee
for three years.

“We appreciate Mr. Sherman’s leadership and his willingness to share with
us his time and talents,” said Dr. Greg Powell, President of Panola
College.

Sherman is a practicing attorney who also owns Carthage Title Company.
Sherman obtained a BBA in Accounting from Baylor University in 1983, where
he also lettered in football.Sherman continued his education to graduate
from the University Of Texas School Of Law and became licensed to practice
law in the State of Texas in 1987. Sherman was an honors graduate and Order
of the Coif at UT School of Law. Sherman is married to Mary Ella Sherman.

Sherman is a strong believer and supporter of education. All three of his
children, Davis, Lainey, and Kate, attended Panola College for dual credit
courses while attending High School.  “Acquiring an education shows a
discipline to be able to complete a degree and allows a person to remain
competitive and more marketable in today’s economy,” said Sherman.

A primary goal of Sherman’s while serving on the foundation is to expand
the number of scholarships the Panola College Foundation is able to offer
students. He considers this to be one of the most basic needs of students
and the college. Scholarship allows students, that otherwise might not have
been able to, the opportunity to attend college. The foundation strives to
offer students the chance to enrich their lives not just with an experience
but with an education that will last a lifetime.

When Sherman is not busy working or with the Panola College Foundation, he
enjoys spending time with his family, working outdoors, and being at the
lake.

“Mr. Sherman is an excellent addition to the Panola College Foundation, and
we are proud to have his energy and talents dedicated to Panola College,”
said Jessica Pace, Director of Institutional Advancement.
