Local Sports Roundup--11/21/14; Second round playoff action tonight for Tenaha, Timpson & San Augustine, Dykes named Texas Tennis Coach of the Year

In the second round of the high school football playoffs tonight,

 

The (8-1) Tenaha Tigers vs. (8-3) Hubbard at 7:30 p.m. in Lindale in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. II area round game. The winner has the Lindsay/Normangee winner, which is being played in Ferris, in the third round next week. Tenaha ISD will early release at 2:30 pm this afternoon. Pep Rally will be at 2:10 in the Special Events Center.

 

The (5-5) Timpson Bears vs. (8-2) Chilton at 7:30 p.m. in Palestine in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. II game. The winner would meet the Iola/Muenster winner, that's being played tonight in Waxahachie, in the third round. The Timpson Pep Rally will be at 12:30 p.m. with an early release for students at 1 p.m. Student pick up is 12:40 p.m. Friday.

 

(6-5) San Augustine vs. (7-3) Centerville 7:30 p.m. in Troup in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. I area game. Center Broadcasting will have the action on 925 KXXE and online at cbc-radio.com. The winner will play the West Sabine/Price Carlisle winner, that games at 7 p.m. tonight in Lufkin.

 

Also tonight, (6-5) Carthage will play (10-1) El Campo at 7:30 p.m. in New Caney in a Class 4A, Region III, Div. I area game.

 

The Logansport Tigers vs. East Beauregard at 7 p.m. tonight in DeRidder in a Louisiana High School Football second round game.

It’s the annual Battle for Chief Caddo Saturday afternoon in Nacogdoches as SFA host Northwestern State at 3 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium. The 7 foot wooden trophy is the largest in college football.

 

We had mentioned yesterday that Center Roughrider Head Tennis Coach Leon Dykes had been named the regional Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Tennis Coaches Association. Center Broadcasting received word Thursday that Coach Dykes has now been tabbed the Texas Tennis Coach of the Year by his peers. The Rider Tennis Team won the Region Championship and advanced to State competition recently where they finished in third place.

 

In high school basketball, the Center Lady Riders are playing in the Cushing Tournament through Saturday. Also playing in the tourney are the San Augustine Lady Wolves, Shelbyville Lady Dragons and Garrison Lady Bulldogs. The Timpson Lady Bears are in the Union Grove Tournament thru Saturday; and the Tenaha Lady Tigers are playing in the Slocum Tourney.

 

In boys’ round-ball action, the Shelbyville Dragons are taking part in the Burkeville Tournament thru Saturday.

 

The Center Roughrider Boy' Basketball teams will be playing their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 25th beginning at 5 PM in the Center High School Gym. Freshmen will tip things off, followed by Junior Varsity and then Varsity. The Varsity Riders will also be participating in the Burger King Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28th and 29th. Those games will be played at the Whitehouse High School gym, instead of at UT-Tyler. On Friday, they will face Jacksonville at 6 PM and on Saturday they will play Lindale at 4:30 PM.

 

The Panola Ponies rolled to a home victory Wednesday night versus Northwestern State University JV, 101-56.  The Ponies stifling defense and sharpshooting helped them jump out to an early lead and take improve to 3-4 on the season. The Ponies will be on the road Saturday Nov. 22, at Coastal Bend College at 4 p.m. in Beeville for their conference opener.  The next home game for the Ponies will be against Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Tuesday November 25 at Carthage High School at 7:30 p.m.
