DeSoto Parish DA being scrutinized for dismissing cases after losing election

After his bid for re-election fell short, long-time DeSoto Parish District Attorney Richard Johnson's decision to dismiss some 21 cases has come under scrutiny from his successor, District Attorney-elect Gary Evans.

In all 37 charges were dropped, including dismissals of attempted second-degree murder, a domestic abuse battery and 11 drug cases. Johnson said this is something that happens normally.

Evans said it may not be the end of the cases. He said he would keep his campaign promise to reviewed dismissed cases by working closely with law enforcement officials in DeSoto Parish that initiated the charges.
